## How It Works

A simple, predictable and transparent process that eliminates development headaches.

1. **Subscribe** — After subscribing, you get access to a dedicated task board. It becomes your roadmap.
2. **Setup** — I set up the development environment, bootstrap a fresh project or study your existing codebase and workflows.
3. **Plan & Develop** — You create tasks and set priorities. I work through them one-by-one and submit for review.
4. **Review & Refine** — You review the work and provide feedback. I revise until you're fully satisfied.
5. **Progress** — You approve completed work. I move to the next highest priority task. The cycle continues.
6. **Maintain** — You report issues anytime. I handle them outside the queue while you're subscribed.

## FAQ

### What kinds of projects?

- **Build:** web apps, SaaS, portals, [MVPs](/jurij/p/what-a-6-week-mvp-build-looks-like), [PoCs](/jurij/p/what-a-2-week-poc-looks-like), [PWAs](/jurij/p/what-a-pwa-build-looks-like), AI features.
- **Maintain:** bugs, dependencies, security, [modernization](/jurij/p/what-a-legacy-app-modernization-looks-like).
- **Automate:** workflows, integrations, agents, [internal tools](/jurij/p/the-tiny-app-that-eliminated-a-shipping).

### Who is the retainer for?

- **Founders before the first hire:** [fractional CTO](/jurij/p/what-a-fractional-cto-engagement-looks-like)
- **Products after launch:** [maintenance](/jurij/p/what-a-software-maintenance-retainer-looks-like)
- **Agencies and studios:** [white label](/jurij/p/what-whitelabel-dev-retainer-looks-like)
- **Solo operators:** [AI and automation](/jurij/p/what-ai-automation-retainer-looks-like)

No product yet? Start with a [2-week PoC](/jurij/p/what-a-2-week-poc-looks-like) or a [6-week MVP](/jurij/p/what-a-6-week-mvp-build-looks-like).

### What's the tech stack?

JavaScript and TypeScript, on the [default stack](/principles/delivery/default-stack) I've used for years, for apps and automations alike. Far from it, I say no rather than learn on your dime.

### How much gets done in a week?

It varies with complexity. You get [continuous flow](/principles/delivery/continuous-flow), not fixed deliverables: about 72 hours per task on average.

### What counts as one task?

One focused piece of work: *add sign-in*, *take payments*, *switch the AI model*, *automate a weekly report*. Bigger features split into several. Scope follows [appetite, not estimates](/principles/discovery/appetite-not-estimates).

### How are big features handled?

I split them into small, reviewable tasks and keep [one in progress at a time](/principles/delivery/wip-one). My attention is the constraint, so you get steady progress, not one big delivery weeks later.

### Can I pause or cancel?

Yes, anytime, in the Stripe portal, with no penalty and no questions: that's [exit freedom](/principles/partnership/exit-freedom).

### How does the pause feature work?

Billing stops at once and the task board stays read-only. Resume anytime with no re-onboarding: a [pause, not an end](/principles/diligence/pause-not-end). Bug fixes and maintenance run only while you're subscribed.

### What if you're unavailable?

The subscription pauses for those days. You never pay for time I'm away.

### Who owns the code?

You do, from day one: the code, the cloud accounts and the API keys are [yours](/principles/philosophy/client-owns-everything). Cancel tomorrow and hand it all to anyone.

### How does communication work?

[Async-first](/principles/partnership/async-first): direct messages or email for quick questions, task comments for details. No standups, no status meetings. Replies within a few hours; a separate channel for emergencies.

### What if the work isn't right?

I revise until you're satisfied, at no extra cost. If it still isn't working, cancel with no penalty.

### Does the retainer work for a single task?

Yes: subscribe, ship it, cancel. Common one-offs: [code](/jurij/p/what-a-code-audit-looks-like), [DevOps](/jurij/p/what-a-devops-audit-looks-like) or [automation](/jurij/p/what-an-automation-audit-looks-like) audits, or a [2-week PoC](/jurij/p/what-a-2-week-poc-looks-like). Unsure of scope? Try the [build cost tool](/discovery/build-cost).

### How do I get started?

Fill in the [project form](/start?cta=faq), about a minute. I reply the next working day; if it fits, with questions, a first plan and a call invite. Work starts the working day after you subscribe.
