# What Is My IP

See your public IP address as websites see it, IPv4 or IPv6. Nothing to type or store.

## How It Works

1. **Open the page** — Your public IP address shows as soon as the page loads. Nothing to type, no sign-up.
2. **Read the version** — A chip says IPv4 (four numbers, like 203.0.113.42) or IPv6 (longer, with colons, like 2001:db8::1).
3. **Copy or check again** — Copy the address in one click. Switched a VPN on or off? Press Check again to see the new one.

## FAQ

### What is a public IP address?

The address the internet sees when you connect. Your router or mobile network shares it across your devices, so every site you visit sees this one, not your device's local address.

### What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?

IPv4 is four numbers from 0 to 255, about 4.3 billion addresses in all. IPv6 is eight groups of hex digits with colons, made because IPv4 ran out. Many networks give you both; this page shows the one your browser used.

### Why does a VPN change my IP?

A VPN or proxy sends your traffic through its own server, so websites see that server's address instead of yours. Turn it on or off, then press Check again.

### Do you store my IP address?

No. The address comes from your own request and goes straight back to your browser. The tool does not log it, store it or send it to a lookup service.

## Usage
