Turn a CSV into an animated line chart race, with one named line for each column. Play it fullscreen. Your data stays local.

How It Works

Load your CSV

Paste CSV into the text box or drop a .csv, .tsv or .txt file above it, then click Load Data. Column 1 is the time label and each other column is one line. A sample is preloaded. No code, no account.

Play the race

Press play or Space. Each line draws left to right, one row per second at 1x; the speed button cycles 0.5x, 1x, 2x and 4x. Left and right arrows step one row.

Tune it and present

The gear picks one of 4 color palettes, the Y-axis number format, dots on or off and line width. Press f or the fullscreen button to fill the screen.

FAQ

A header row, then one row per time step. Column 1 is the label (2020, Q1 2024, Jan) and each other column is a line, named by its header:

Comma, tab and semicolon files work. The minimum is 2 columns and 2 rows of data.
Cells must be plain numbers. An empty cell or $1200 reads as 0, and "1,234" reads as 1. An unquoted 1,234 in a comma file splits into two cells and shifts the next column. So remove currency signs and thousands separators, and write decimals with a dot (65.2, not 65,2).

Rows play in file order, so sort by date first. They are spaced evenly, so 2010, 2015 and 2016 sit equal distances apart. Data with one row per date and name needs a pivot to one column per name. Names over about 14 characters get cut at the right edge.
A line race when the path matters: each line keeps its history on screen, so you see when one series passed another. A bar chart race when only the current ranking matters: one moment at a time, top 10 by default. The area chart race stacks the series into a total, or shows them as 100% shares. The bubble chart race shows size. All four read the same CSV.
Not in this tool. A bump chart plots rank. This one plots the values on a Y axis fixed for the whole run, so the gaps between series show too. Horse race chart is another name for a line chart race.
No, the tool has no export or download. Press f for fullscreen, where the controls and cursor hide 1.2 seconds into playback, and screen-record that view.
